Writing is a creative endeavor that many people find challenging. It is natural to feel confused and stuck when drafting your resume. If you have been reading too many articles with guidelines and tips, the chances are bright that you will get lost in them. You might feel overwhelmed by so many ideas one day, and the next morning you will feel the mind is blank. Just like writers get the block, you will experience the cluelessness sometimes when building your professional profile.

Here are some simple ways to get going with writing your resume!

Motivate or Incentive Yourself
Don’t think of writing as a boring and tiring ritual that you have to perform for the sake of scoring a job. You can’t create a kick-ass professional resume unless you motivate yourself to do so. Think about an activity that gets those creative juices flowing, it can be good music or coffee. Listen to your favorite upbeat song and then start working on the details you left in the middle. Don’t try dark or sad music as you don’t have to write a breakup story.

Enjoy the Nature

You must have heard the great poets and writers say they get inspiration from mountains, rain, and sunshine. Nature is a natural mind and mood booster. You can’t get wrong with this one. If you have been trying hard to write inside the concrete walls and it’s not helping, take your laptop outside or go for a walk. Sometimes taking a stroll and observing people also helps, this is what Drew Barrymore did in the movie “Music and Lyrics” and she did find the missing words to her lyrics.

Think about Sticking with Facts on your Professional Resume

You don’t have to push yourself for thinking outside the box when writing details for your resume. Focus on facts and make yourself understand that the writing process involves creating content out of details that are already there. For instance, you don’t have to think about the professional history or skills, you already have them written right there. Improving and tweaking the text is all you need for making the information appealing.

Strike a Balance between Formal and Informal Tone

Resume writing is not about drafting a narcissistic narrative of how good and competent you are. While being a little informal and creative would make the details compelling, avoid using humor, edgy words, and phrases. You don’t know what kind of recruiters and employers would read your job application so the best way to go about writing is using a moderate tone. It shouldn’t be strictly professional or way too friendly to make the readers feel you have sent them your work-life story.

Don’t hesitate to ask for Help

You can always ask a friend or family member to review your resume and share detailed feedback. This will not only help you with correcting typos and grammatical issues but you will also get to know what to add and edit. You will be able to improve and change the sections that need major revamp.

Use the same approach for your cover letter. Give yourself some incentive to write catchy content for it. Another way to push yourself is by giving a punishment, a household chore, or a task that you find annoying to work on. This would get you in the mood for writing and you will be able to finish off what you started.
